Why Is My Relative Not A Saint?

Remember that there are canonized saints and non-canonized saints. A canonized saint is someone who is officially recognized by the Holy Roman Catholic Church as a person who now resides in heaven. (no longer in purgatory-however long that may have been) The reason the church declares them saints is because their lives on earth are worth emulating by others while trying to live their life for God. This is discussed more in the Podcast's but be sure to read more resources about saints. I like to use the example that perhaps your "great uncle Alfred" (or any deceased relative) may be a saint, that is he or she no longer resides in purgatory but their soul has been cleansed and is now a friend of God in Heaven. They are a Saint! They are just not a canonized saint. I hope this clears it up.

Why Is Saint Christopher No Longer A Saint?

This is a little tougher to explain. Saint Christopher was passed down as a Saint by way of Catholic Tradition. It was thought that a man named Christopher carried a little boy across the river and the boy was very heavy because he had the weight of the world upon him. (The little boy was Jesus - As tradition tells us) After Vatican II the methods for declaring saints were improved and their simply was not enough evidence for St. Christopher. They can not even prove that there ever really was a person and that this story is a fact. So unfortunately St. Christopher was taken from the litany of saints.
